3 April 2019 –  A new large theme park called – Hrvatska u malom (Croatia in miniture) – is planned to be built in Sopot, Novi Zagreb, daily Jutarnji list reports.

Visitors to the theme park will have the opportunity to learn more about Croatia’s rich culture and heritage.

Among other things, Hrvatska u malom will display traditional styles of construction, from wooden houses famous in Turopolje to Istrian stone Kažuns, as well as the intangible Croatian cultural heritage which is listed by UNESCO list and presented by regions.

“The interpretation centre and theme park presents Croatia’s traditional architecture and the immaterial cultural heritage of Croatia, which the City of Zagreb as its capital undoubtedly deserves,” Sanja Cvjetko Jerković, head of the City Office for Strategic Planning and Development city, said, before adding.

“Croatian heritage is extremely rich, diverse and recognised not only in the country but also in the world. Despite a diverse and rich architectural and cultural tradition, there is no open-air museum in Croatia that would, in one place, cover and present all the regions and their specialties.”

The theme park is set to be spread on 6.4 hectares of land on behind the suburb of Sopot in Novi Zagreb.

Continuing with the Museum of Contemporary Art, the theme park ‘Little Croatia’ should become one of the generators of the necessary cultural renewal of Novi Zagreb.
