VINKOVCI, 14 June 2022 – At 253 meters above sea level, it is not the highest, but it is the easternmost checkpoint of the Croatian Mountaineering Bypass. Skandala is located in the heart of the Srijem vineyards on the magical Fruška gora above Ilok.
Beautiful tame landscapes and views of endless vineyards are worth every step.
Mountaineering stamp important to mountaineers, a break in one of the wineries with a glass of top quality wine, hanging out with your favourite team and staying outdoors are more reasons to go to the east of Croatia, choose your own rhythm and enjoy the fresh air.
Of the six new marked and traced hiking trails, as many as four lead across Skandala. Two trails are named after it, the longer one is 14 kilometers, the shorter nine, both are circular, starting from the Vukovo lookout point, leading through vineyards to the highest peak of Liska at 297 meters above sea level and over Skandala, returning to the starting point.
From Bapska to Principovac, there is a 22-kilometre-long trail, also the longest of these six. Whoever ventures on it will follow the paths of Odescalchi, the famous Ilok prince’s family, who planted the first Traminer vines on the Principovac country estate in 1710.
Those who walk the 17-kilometre-long Lovka-Radoš trail, which leads to the easternmost Croatian settlement and vineyards, will also enjoy the beauty of the vineyards and a glass of Traminer.
You will also enjoy the silence of Srijem on the 12-kilometre-long Slovak House trail that leads from Radoš to Liska, and the 6.5-kilometre-long trail that starts from Principovac leads to the highest peak through vineyards and forests and is the only trail that does not pass through Skandala.
“Apart from mountaineers, cyclists, recreationists and athletes, the six new hiking and mountaineering trails are attractive to all nature lovers, but also to lovers of top wines. The trails pass through famous vineyards such as Principovac, Vukovo and Radoš, are arranged, marked, traced, mapped and build on the already existing well-known hiking and biking trails of Srijem and Slavonia.
The new tourist product of Srijem and Slavonia is the result of successful cooperation between the Tourist Board of Vukovar-Srijem County and the Croatian Mountaineering Association Cibalia from Vinkovci, whose members regularly hike in this beautiful area,” points out Rujana Bušić Srpak, director of the Vukovar-Srijem County Tourist Board, adding that further marking of new hiking and mountaineering routes to other attractive areas of the county is planned.
