The BBC has included Croatia’s famous 1998 World Cup home shirt among the 10 most iconic kits in World Cup history.
In a ranking published today, BBC placed Croatia’s distinctive red-and-white chequered kit from the 1998 FIFA World Cup in sixth place, recognising both its unique design and the significance of the team’s achievements during the tournament in France.
“Davor Suker, France 1998, red and white checks splashed across his shoulder. Majestic,” the BBC wrote in its description of the shirt.
The ranking also recalled Croatia’s memorable run to the semi-finals. Led by players including Šuker, Robert Jarni, Zvonimir Boban and Robert Prosinečki, Croatia exceeded expectations in only their second major international tournament appearance.
The same kit was also voted recently as the fans’ favourite of all time on a vote on the HNS official X feed.
