Ballon d’Or 2017: Luka Modric No.1 Midfielder in the World

Luka Modric (HNS)

Croatian captain Luka Modric has been named the World’s 5th Best Footballer at the Ballon d’Or tonight.

Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo beat Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or award for the fifth time, whilst his teammate Modric was named the 5th best.

The Ballon d’Or, which is voted for by 173 journalists from around the world, has been awarded by France Football every year since 1956, but for six years it became the Fifa Ballon d’Or in association with world football’s governing body and was awarded to the world’s best player.

With the four players ahead of Modric being Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar and Buffon, the Croatian is the No.1 midfielder in the world.

Modric was last month named in the FIFA World XI for the third year in a row.
