PHOTOS: Asian Street Food Festival opens in Zagreb

ZAGREB, 24 April 2025 – The 3rd Asian Street Food Festival officially opened on Wednesday at Josip Juraj Strossmayer Square in Zagreb.
Running from 23–29 April, this year’s edition sees 11 vibrant food stalls serving more than 50 Asian specialities.

New Twists and Old Favourites
Festival veterans like Purple Monkey returned with exciting new dishes such as Squid Sticks and Popcorn Chicken, alongside their beloved gyoza.

SoHo was popular with the crowd with their “Sohorrito” – a sushi-burrito fusion available in five variants, and their standout Squid in Kadaif.

Jellyfish in Space impressed with their bao bun creations – including a Pašticada bao with kimchi and mango sauce. Other bao flavours include pulled pork, shrimp surimi and salmon tartare, paired perfectly with original house cocktails.

Chef Ivan Temšić brought a touch of fine dining to the street scene with Noel* dishes like Katsu Sando, Korean fried chicken wings and Pork Belly Bao, delighting foodies with top-tier street flavours.

Flavours from Sri Lanka to Thailand
Curry Bowl made their debut with their Sri Lankan specialities, like the rich and filling Kotthu – a mix of chopped roti, wok-fried vegetables and meat, topped with cheese and traditional sauces.

Thai Thai returned with fan favourites like Pad Thai, and introduced spicy newcomers – Tom Yum soup with prawns and crispy chilli chicken with rice.

Their coconut dessert, served in a fresh coconut shell with sticky rice and coconut ice cream, turned heads.

Pastry chef Juraj Klepić is there with his innovative desserts like Fry Dubai and Tropic Fry, while Kawaii served up crunchy Tanghulu (candied fruit) and colourful Japanese Harajuku crepes.

Ginglebells and the central bar kept the drinks flowing with everything from classic cocktails to Asian-inspired sips like Yuzu Mojito and Geisha Spritz. Coffee fans can enjoy expertly brewed Well Bean coffee.

The festival isn’t just about eating – there’s a full programme of events including live DJ sets, workshops like Mochi Pounding and Matcha making, and a Staropramen Movie Night screening of the Thai comedy “How to Get Rich Before Grandma Dies”.

Sunday will also see a special charity sushi sale in collaboration with Fisherija and RK Zagreb handball players, supporting tech access in Croatian schools.
