ZAGREB, Dec 18 (Hina) – Croatian Army troops arrived in Kokorići in the south of the country on Friday to help clean up the flooded area after the water had subsided.

Troops are removing sandbags that were used to build defence walls and defend the houses from the flood.

Since December 7 when the village was flooded, Croatian Mountain Rescue Service teams have been delivering food and other necessities to local residents and now they are helping in cleaning up.

The water level climbed by 3.5 metres leaving 16 houses flooded. The waters have now subsided and roads to the village are passable once again. The main road leading to Vrgorac should reopen to traffic in a few days after the waters subside completely.

Most of the crop fields to the east of the village are still underwater while the water has subsided from the fields with strawberries and greenhouses to the north of the village.
