Zurich most expensive city for cappuccino, Zagreb among most affordable

Coffee in Zagreb

A new report from Deutsche Bank for 2025 has revealed striking differences in the price of a cappuccino around the world — and Zagreb stands out as one of the more affordable capitals for coffee lovers.

According to the data, Zürich remains the most expensive city for a cappuccino, with an average price of €5.80. New York follows closely behind at €5.10, while Abu Dhabi ranks third at €5.00.

Across Europe, prices vary but tend to be somewhat lower. A cappuccino in London costs on average €4.50, followed by Vienna (€4.30), Paris (€4.00) and Berlin (€3.80).

On the American continent, Toronto comes in at €3.30, while in Asia, the cost is noticeably cheaper — Tokyo (€3.10), Beijing (€2.70) and Mumbai (€2.20). At the other end of the scale, Cairo boasts the world’s cheapest cappuccino at just €1.40.

Zagreb has been listed among the more affordable capitals, with an average cappuccino price of €2.40, similar to that of Barcelona, HRT writes.

For Croatians, who are among Europe’s most passionate coffee drinkers, this is welcome news. Coffee is a daily ritual and a key part of social life — from morning catch-ups to leisurely afternoons on café terraces.

Although prices in Zagreb are lower than in most Western European cities, any increase is quickly felt, as many locals enjoy one or two cups a day.
