For the fifth year in a row, Dubrovnik FestiWine, the festival celebrating wine, will take place in the period from 16 to 22 April 2018. It will gather many who are already in the winemaking business, prospective winemakers as well as numerous wine lovers.
The history of Dubrovnik FestiWine is quite interesting – the event that was established in 2014 as a regional wine festival intended to promote wine culture and autochthonous wines of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, opened its doors to participants outside the County only three years later and thus earned an international character.
Its organizers have prepared a rich and extensive program offering a bit of everything for everyone. The Festival will open with the “Dubrovnik Wine Week”, during which many Dubrovnik citizens and their guests can visit restaurants, taverns and wine bars with the “Wine friendly” sign, and taste top wines of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County paired expertly with fine delicacies of the Dubrovnik region.
The central event of the Dubrovnik FestiWine is the Wine Exhibition, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, 20 and 21 April 2018 in the beautiful atmosphere of the Sunset Beach in Uvala Lapad (Lapad Bay). During the exhibition, the wine professionals will meet with winemakers, while the guests will have the opportunity to take part in lectures and wine tastings, very attractive wine and cooking workshops, such as the “Gault&Millau” masterclass by the Japanese chef Ippei Uemura, the “Sparkling Table” dedicated to sparkling wines, etc.
‘”This year, Dubrovnik FestiWine celebrates its fifth birthday. We continue with dedication and confidence to develop the strategy of viniculture and winemaking in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. We look forward to welcoming all participants and their wines, all visitors and wine connoisseurs. We welcome the healthy competition, where the wines from our county can prove their excellence even further”, said Nikola Dobroslavić, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect.
One of the traditional events of the Festival is the blind tasting of wines that are paired best with the famous autochthonous delicacy of the region, the Ston oyster. The event is known as “Blind date: In Love with Ston Oysters” will be followed by the “Dubrovnik FestiWine Trophy” international wine judging. The international panel of judges and oenologists, headed by the president of the panel, Bojan Kobal, will select the best wines of the Festival.
Another very popular Festival event is the enogastronomic spectacle “Dubrovnik FestiWine Gala”, which will take place on 19 April 2018 at the Excelsior Hotel, during which the seven winning wines of the last year’s Festival will be presented along with the creative dishes of young and reputable chefs Igor Jagodic (guest chef) and Petar Obad (host chef). Traditionally, the proceeds of the gala dinner will go to training of young culinary talents in pairing food and wines through creative cooking and wine service.
