3 Croatians in race for world’s best young footballer title

Three Croatians are among players shortlisted for the 2022 Golden Boy award. 

The Golden Boy award is won by Europe’s best young player aged under 21 in a calendar year and today the nominees were announced.  

Past winners of the award include Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Wayne Rooney and Kylian Mbappe. 

This year three talented Croatians have been named among the nominees. 

20-year-old Leipzig defender Joško Gvardiol, Salzburg’s Luka Sučić, who featured in Croatia’s last international against France, and Hajduk Split’s talented 19-year-old youth international Stipe Biuk have all made the list.

The Golden Boy Award was founded by Tuttosport in 2003, and includes journalists from The Times, L’Equipe, Marca, Bild, De Telegraf and other European big houses.

Tuttosport has published a list of 100 nominees, and fans will be able to cast their vote online, thus reducing the list to 20 final candidates.
