Those lucky enough to be in Peškera bay, Poreč this Sunday (7 June) for the final of the Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series are in for a treat…

International Volleyball Federation’s (FIVB) most prestigious Beach Volleyball series, which has seen the world’s best players on show over the last 5 days in Poreč, have come up with a novel way to kick off tomorrow’s final.

Croatia’s world-famous cello duo 2Cellos will be helicoptered in to centre court by world-record holding Austrian skydiver, daredevil and BASE jumper Felix Baumgartner. 2Cellos will come out of the helicopter and play the Croatian national anthem ahead of tournament’s final.

Baumgartner, who became the first person to break the sound barrier without vehicular power on his descent, will be a special guest for the final day of the Poreč Major. Baumgartner’s most recent project was Red Bull Stratos, in which he jumped to Earth from a helium balloon in the stratosphere in 2012. As part of this project, he set the maximum vertical speed without drogue, highest exit altitude for a parachutist, and greatest vertical distance of freefall.
