The model, or most ideal, Croatian rural woman contest has taken place in the city of Karlovac last night.

The contest, which is open to all Croatian women between 25-65 who live in rural areas, saw women from all over the country converge on Karlovac to take part in the 18th edition of the contest.

This year’s winner was Renata Bedekovic from the ‘Bedekovic’ family farm in Jakusevac in the Zagreb County.

The first runner-up was Anita Nekic from ‘Nekic’ family farm in the Pozega-Slavonia County, whilst Ljubica Gustin from ‘Gustin’ family farm in the Karlovac County was second runner-up.

Organisers say that the key criteria for judging the contest are the general status of the women, their hospitality, looking after the household, and impression on stage and at the table. The primary objective of the contest is to promote the importance of rural women and improve the quality of life in rural areas.
