2012 Croatian Sports Awards Belong To Olympic Stars

Olympic gold medal winning athletes Sandra Perkovic and Giovanni Cernogoraz have been named 2012 Croatian Sports Man and Women of the Year at the 61st Sportske Novosti awards.

Perkovic won gold at the summer Olympics in London in the discus event with a throw of 69.11m. Trap Shooter Giovanni Cernogoraz sensationally won gold also at the London Olympics in the Men’s Trap event. The virtually unknown restaurant worker at his father’s restaurant, beat world champion Massimo Fabbrizi of Italy in a dramatic shoot off to win gold.

Champion skier Ivica Kostelic was runner-up in the men’s section, whilst taekwondo star Lucija Zaninovic finished second behind Perkovic.
