Ana Konjuh’s astonishing run at the US Open has ended on Wednesday at the hands of the number 10 seed…

The talented 18-year-old Croatian, who won the US Open Junior title in 2013, was beaten convincingly today at the US Open by 10th seed Karolina Pliškova 6:2, 6:2 in just under an hour in the quarter-final.

The powerful Croatian teen could not back up her impressive performance two days ago against 4th seed Agnieszka Radwanska and was out-muscled by her higher-ranked opponent on Arthur Ashe stadium at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday afternoon. Pliškova (24), who knocked out Venus Williams in straight sets earlier this week, was also playing in her first Grand Slam quarter-final.

Konjuh, a fearless big hitter, became the first Croatian women’s player to make it through to the quarter-final at the US Open when she beat Radwanska. Konjuh was ranked 92nd in the world before the tournament started and will rise after an impressive week and a half in New York.
