Zagreb’s BOOM 137 Years Not Out

ZagrebIt has scattered pigeons, and shocked tourists and even locals on a daily basis in the Croatian capital for many years now, and this month it celebrated 137 years in operation… we are talking about Zagreb’s famous Grič cannon…

The Grič cannon is one of Zagreb’s most recognisable landmarks. Since 1 January 1877 the cannon has fired from the fortified Lotrščak tower on Grič  in the upper part of town to mark midday. The cannon was to give the sign for exact noon for the bell-ringers of the city’s churches, and the tradition has remained until today.
