Zagreb Mayor Released from Jail and €2 Million Bail Money Returned

Croatia80Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić has been released from jail after the Constitutional Court in Croatia quashed a District Court decision on Thursday…

Bandić (59), who has been Mayor of Croatia’s capital since 2005, was arrested, along with 19 others, on suspicion of corruption, bribery and organised crime on 19 October 2014. The court released the Mayor late last year on what was a record 2 million euros bail, but last month he was ordered back behind bars after the District Court ruled that he had breached part of his bail conditions. Yesterday the Constitutional Court in Zagreb overturned the decision and the Mayor was released just after 7:00pm last evening.

Bandić’s bail money (2 million euros), which was forfeited to the state when he was ordered back to prison, will be returned.
