World’s Biggest Opera Star Elīna Garanca Back to Perform in Zagreb

One of the world’s biggest opera stars is coming back to Croatia to perform for the second time…

Mezzo soprano Elīna Garanca, who grew up in Latvia, will hold a concert at the Vatroslav Lisinki Hall in Zagreb on 8 February as part of her European tour.

Garanca (39), who studied in Vienna and the United States, has performed on world stages as Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen, Charlotte in Werther, and as Octavian in Strauss’s The Knight of the Rose. In 2008, she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Rosina in The Barber of Seville.

Granca has won a number of awards, including 2 Echo Klassik awards, a Musical America award and a MIDEM Classical award for singer of the year. She also was the recipient of the European Culture Award for music in 2006.
