West Ham’s Croatian Striker Eyes Up Brazil Spot

Mladen PetricWest Ham’s new Croatian signing Mladen Petric has told Croatian media that he is still hopeful that he will make it into Igor Stimac’s side for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil with Croatia, should they qualify.

Petric, whose finest hour in a Croatia shirt was at Wembley in 2007 when his left-foot strike from outside the box sent England crashing out 2008 Euro qualifications, has fallen out of favour with the national selectors but says that now he has a new club he is back in the frame.

“I definitely want to go to Brazil,” he told T-portal.

“I didn’t play for Croatia in their last matches just because I didn’t have a club. But national team coach Igor Stimac has assured me that I would be part of the team if I’m going to play for my club.”

Croatia look set to finish second in Group A of the qualifying section, meaning they will then go into a play-off for a place in Brazil.
