Tax Inspectors Close Only Cafe on Busy Split-Stari Grad Ferry

The tax inspectors rampage down Croatia’s Adriatic coast continues. After closing the famous Carpe Diem Beach bar on Pakleni islands near Hvar during peak season for undeclared income, the inspectors have now closed the only cafe on board the busy ‘Tin Ujevic’ ferry which travels from Split to Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, reports RTL television.

Passengers making the two-hour journey on board the Jadrolinija ferry will have to find alternatives for refreshments after the inspectors temporarily closed the cafe for tax offences on Tuesday. Around 3,000 passengers are expected to make the journey on Saturday when the cafe will still be closed, with only a water cooler machine with limited water the only option for thirsty passengers.  Jadrolinja say their hands are tied as they leased the cafe out privately. The cafe is expected to re-open on Sunday.
