Rivalry Put Aside Ahead Of Croatian Derby Repeat As Dinamo Offer Hajduk Help

Cross-city rivalry has been put to one side, for the moment at least, on the eve of the second attempt at playing Croatia’s biggest football derby between Hajduk Split and Dinamo Zagreb this Wednesday.

After a water-logged pitch forced last night’s scheduled derby to be postponed until Wednesday, Dinamo Zagreb have offered their long-term rivals a helping hand.  “With two shovels and a pitch fork you definitely can not do anything decent,” said Dinamo Zagreb’s groundsman Miljenko Sakoman after watching Hajduk Split ground staff attempt to make the pitch fit for play last night after torrential rain hit with just a few pitch forks and shovels.

“If they need us – we are here. We are prepared to help them with machinery and labour,” was the message from Dinamo Zagreb ahead of Wednesday’s derby.
