Renaissance for Mirjana Lučić-Baroni as she Advances to US Open 3rd Round

Lučić-Baroni (32), won the Grand Slam women’s doubles title at the Australian Open in 1998 when she was only 15 years old, has beaten Israel’s Shahar Peer 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-2 on Wednesday to advance through to the 3rd round at Fleshing Meadows. The 119th ranked Makarska-born right-hander, who was once ranked 32nd in the world , had to go through qualifying for this year’s US Open and has now won five games straight. The Croatian will now face Romanian Simona Halep for a place in the 4th round.
