Diego Armando Maradona arrived in the Croatian capital Zagreb late on Thursday night and immediately made his way to his hotel DoubleTree by Hilton Zagreb brushing off reporters on the way.

Maradona, who is in town to support Argentina in the final of the Davis Cup which starts at Arena Zagreb today, spent Friday morning meeting Croatian Football Federation officials.

The Croatian Football Federation headquarters are in the same building as the hotel where the former Napoli, Barcelona and Seville legend is staying.

The the FIFA Player of the 20th Century met with Croatia coach Ante Čačić, and Federation officials Damir Vrbanović and Zorislav Srebrić and he was presented with a Croatia shirt with Davor Šuker’s name on it.

Šuker, who out of Zagreb on business, played together with Maradona at Seville in Spain.

“Say hi to him, I love him just as much today as I did during our days at Sevilla”, Maradona said.

Čačić thanked Maradona for his kind words and praise for his side during the 2016 Euros in France this summer.

It is not Maradona’s first visit to Croatia. He played in Zagreb for Argentina against Croatia in 1994, and also in a charity match on the Croatian coast in Novi Vinodolski with Šuker and Goran Ivanišević and partied in Dubrovnik in 2014.

He also has Croatian connections. Maradona’s grandfather on his mother’s side emigrated from the Croatian island of Korčula to Argentina. Digeo has himself said that he named his daughter Dalma after the region ‘Dalmatia’.
