Peter Greenaway’s Latest Flim Shot in Croatia Hits Cinemas

CroatiaAs of Thursday November 14, lovers of art-house cinema and the works of cult British filmmaker Peter Greenaway (The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, The Pillow Book, 8 ½ Women, Nightwatching) will be able to see his latest work Goltzius and the Pelican Company in Croatian cinemas...

The film is based on the life of Hendrik Goltzius (Ramsey Nasr), a late 16th century Dutch printer and engraver of erotic prints. He seduces the Margrave of Alsace (F. Murray Abraham) into paying for a printing press to make and publish illustrated books. Goltzius promises him an extraordinary book of pictures of the Old Testament Biblical stories. To tempt the Margrave further, Goltzius and his printing company will offer to perform dramatizations of Erotic tales of the temptation for his court.

Goltzius and the Pelican Company is the second feature in Greenaway’s film series “Dutch Masters”, which includes the previous film Nightwatching. The third entry in the series will focus on Hieronymus Bosch, and its release is planned to coincide with the 500th anniversary of Bosch’s death in 2016.

The film is co-produced by Croatia’s MP – filmska produkcija, with Zagreb railway equipment factory Gredelj served up as the setting for most of the films scenes. Croatian born and Ireland based costume designer Blanka Budak has done breathtaking work on the costumes. You can check more Blanka Budak’s work here.
