There has been an onslaught of new pancake (palačinke) places open in the Croatian capital Zagreb over the last 12 months, reports daily Jutarnji list

Milky whey, Nutty, Choco cafe, Crunchy bar, Činkica, Smooth bar, Mr. Pancake and Palčica are just some of the new pancake places to open in Zagreb in the past year. Pancake places are becoming increasingly popular in the capital with more are set to open in the coming months.

A few of the new pancake places to open have been very successful, and are already creating chains of shops. Milky whey and Mr. Pancake have both opened new stores around the city since launching.

Palčica, which opened only in December, says that it is already booming and even has regular customers making the trek out to the suburb of Dubrava for their pancakes.

“I never thought I would open a pancake place. We often went to Milky Whey, who are now our competitors, for pancakes and they were excellent. After a while I decided that I could start my own pancake business,” Palčica owner Matej Palić says, before adding.

“I am satissfied. Guest praise us which is the most important. We put a lot into marketing, but customers come because of world of mouth. People simply love pancakes,” he said.

The offer at Palčica includes a number of various rolled pancakes, including pancakes in the shape of sushi. Filings include Nutella, marmalade, Oreo biscuits, napolitanke biscuits, fruit and much more.
