On this day 23 years ago – 17 November 1992 – the internet era started in Croatia…

The internet age began in Croatia on this day in 1992 when the first internet communication link with Austria was realised. With a speed of 64 kbps, the first international communication link was between CARNet in Zagreb to the Internet in Austria. The first link was set up in the Heart (University computer center).

A lot has changed since that day. Around 65% of the Croatian population are estimated to use the Internet from home, work, and school as well as from their mobile phones today. According to data from 2012, Croatia had 2.8 million users, ranking it 59th in the world for users per population.
