No Wedding Bells In One Croatian Town

Statistics show that fewer people are walking down the aisle in Croatia, but for one Croatian town in particularly the sound of wedding bells have been conspicuously absent in 2013.

Last Saturday on 6 April the first ever wedding in the town of Đakovo in Eastern Croatia was held for 2013.

“Up until last Saturday not one wedding had taken place since Christmas,” said Tomislav Corluka, the town’s Pastor, adding that today young people don’t have jobs so they are concerned what they will live from”.

Corluka also said that summer should bring more weddings.

“In the old days people got married in the autumn when the wine and rakija was ready and available for the party, these days not many keep that tradition. The most weddings happen in Summer,” said Corluka to Glas Slavonija.
