New US Ambassador to Croatia Named


Career diplomat Kenneth Merten has been named as the new U.S. ambassador to Croatia. Merten will replace James B. Foley and will take office in Zagreb during Autumn, reported Croatian radiotelevision.

Merten joined the diplomatic corps in 1987 and has he performed duties in the American Embassy in Paris, Bonn, the U.S. Mission to the EU in Brussels, and the served his last two mandates in Haiti.

“We need to congratulate the Croatian Government on making some difficult, but in the end good decisions in the past 15 years. As a result, Croatia is at the heart of Europe, Croatia, is one of the key members of the transatlantic community, said Merten.
