Last month the Ministry selected the winning design which would be used to replace the current licence plates for all vehicles from June this year. The one major change on the new plates was the replacement of the Croatian coat of arms with one red and blue cube. The removal of the coat of arms upset many, and on Thursday Minister of Internal Affairs Ranko Ostojić announced that the coat of arms will return to the new licence plates.

“On the new plates we will put the Croatian coat of arms where the two cubes are and on the side will be the European Union symbol,” said Ostojić.

Two opposing political parties in Croatia, HDZ and current ruling party SDP, both said the red and blue cubes resembled each others party logo and Ostojić said to avoid confusion and a dilemma they will remove the cubes.
