Irish and British Tourists Rescued on Vis when Kayaks Sink

CroatiaFirefighters on the southern Dalmatian island of Vis have rescued a 34-year-old Irish and 29-year-old British couple late last night, after they got into trouble whilst kayaking near the most famous blue caves…

The tourists set off on kayaks at around 11am on Monday morning to see the blue caves at Biševo when a change in weather in the afternoon soon had the pair in trouble. Waves had forced the pair in the sea after sinking their kayaks, but luckily they managed to swim to some sharp rocks and climb to safety. When the couple had not returned to their rented apartment the owners were concerned at 20:15 notified emergency services. Police searched the area and found the couple waving out to them from the sharp rocks which were an inaccessible part of the island. At 23:00 the couple were successfully rescued. Both did not receive any injuries.
