Government Searching for Investors for World-Class Brijuni Tourism Project

CroatiaThe Croatian government are looking to attract investors who will help turn the uninhabited island of Veliki Brijun into a first class tourist destination which has yet to be seen in Croatia, Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin said on Friday…

The Ministry of Tourism have appointed Horwath & Horwath Consulting from Zagreb, and Raiffeisen Centrobank from Vienna to consult on the project, before the Ministry of Enviroment and Nature suggest a concession model for hoteliers and other tourism businesses for the island of Veliki Brijun, which is located off the west coast of Istria, and is the largest island in the Brijuni Islands archipelago.

The government is hoping to attract a concessionaire who will operate the facilities on the island, whilst environmental protection will remain under the jurisdiction of the Brijuni National Park. Prime Minister Zoran Milanović stressed at the meeting that the hospitality and hotelier part of Brijuni, and not the national park, will go up for concession for commercial purposes. Milanović says that there is an opportunity to finally build hotels that will be higher than the standards built during the Non-Aligned Movement and Austro-Hungarian Empire times.
