Inspired by a hostel in the German city of Bonn, the first train wagon hostel in Croatia has opened at the Zagreb Central Train Station…

Adriatic Train Hostels, which was part funded under the ‘innovative tourism projects’ programme, is situated in a great location for those arriving in Zagreb by train and continuing their travels further down the coast.

“I didn’t have any bookings made for a place to stay but when I got off the train I saw the hostel and it seemed like a good idea to say” tourist Hector Contreras from Chile told HRT.

For now only one wagon has opened, whilst renovations continue on another two. When all three are in use the hostel will have a 90-bed capacity. Plans are in place to open hostels in unused wagons at train stations in Split, Zadar, Rijeka and Pula.
