David Bowie’s Controversial Croatian & Muslim Painting to go Public

CroatiaA controversial painting owned by British rock star David Bowie, depicting a Muslim woman being raped by two Croatian men, will be exhibited for the public for the first time in nearly 20 years, reports The Sunday Times

The painting, titled Croatian and Muslim, was done by Britain’s official war artist during the 1990’s war, Scot Peter Howson, and shows two Croatian men raping a Muslim woman while pushing her head into a lavatory. Bowie purchased the painting for £18,000 after the Imperial War Museum, which commissioned Howson, refused to buy it. The controversial painting will be shown for the first time to the public in almost 20 years.
