Croatians Beat Off Tough Competition To Win Google Award

A Croatian project popularising science amongst youth has beaten off strong competition of around 800 competitors to win a valuable Google RISE Award for 2013.

The Science and Society Synergy Institute (S31) in Cakovec in northern Croatian was the recipient of the award, a 15,000 USD grant, and expert advice.
S3I is an independent research institution supporting schools and teachers in applying innovative teaching methods in STEM and CS. They run a seven-day Summer Science Factory (SSF) for 8-18 year olds comprising hands-on interdisciplinary STEM and CS activities.

Professor Ivan Novosel says that support they will get as a result of winning the award will be well received, as now they will be able to open workshops throughout the whole year and not just the summer months.
