Croatian Derby Belongs To Dinamo Zagreb

A 10-man Dinamo Zagreb side have beaten cross-city rivals Hajduk Split in the Croatian derby on Wednesday night at Split’s Poljud Stadium.

Hajduk Split could not capitalise after Dinamo’s Marcel Brozovic was given his marching orders in the 65th minute for a second yellow card offence. Dinamo Zagreb opened the scoring against the run of play in the 11th minute when striker Ivan Krstanovic beat Hajduk goalkeeper Goran Blazevic after being put through on goal.

Hajduk Split equalised just before half time when a Goran Jozinovic shot from 20 yards deflected off Dinamo captain Josip Simunic. The joy for the 30,000 Split fans was short-lived after an intended cross from Dinamo left-back Luis Ibanez  lobbed over Blazevic just moments after Hajduk’s equaliser.

A scrappy second half returned no more goals and Dinamo Zagreb stretch their lead to 11 points over their rivals with the 2-1 win.
