VIDEO:Croatian Culture Promoters LADO Up For Prestigious American Award

National Folk Dance Ensemble of Croatia LADO have been nominated for a prestigious Independent Music Award (IMA) in America.

LADO, which was founded in 1949 and has been called Croatia’s most successful “cultural export product” thanks to its performances that represent the rich and diverse regional musical and choreographic traditions of Croatia, is nominated in two categories: The Best Album (Iz kajkavskih krajeva vol. 3 i 4) and Best Song (‘Senjicu senjala‘) in the World Traditional Music category.

LADO was nominated for the awards out of thousands of entries from over 70 countries by a jury that consisted of such names ad Tom Waits, Ziggy Marley, Suzanne Vega and Raul Middon.

The ensemble, which travels the world promoting Croatian culture, consists of 37 dancers who also sing while they perform, and a group of 15 musicians who play traditional and classical instruments. Lado has had numerous famous Croatian ethnographers and choreographers, music arrangers, and folklorists work with them.
