Croatia To Introduce New Property Tax On 1 April 2013

The Croatian government will introduce a new property tax from 1 April 2013, Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic announced on Wednesday.

Milanovic said that the new tax would not increase the overall tax burden for citizens and will not put a strain on the middle class, who he says, are the backbone of the economy. Milanovic added that the first payment on the new tax would not be due until Autumn next year.

Croatia’s Finance Minister Slavko Linic, commenting on today’s announcement, said that it will take three months “to repair the damage inflicted upon us by all of those who are fighting against the new property tax,” saying that lies were being spread in the media about the make-up of the new tax by the wealthy.
