Croatia Set to Vote for President in January

Josipovic_election_nightCroatia’s Presidential elections look set to be held on 11 January, according to sources close to the government, reports daily Vecernji list….

Prime Minister Zoran Milanović and current President Ivo Josipović are close to agreeing on a an election date, with the second Sunday in 2015 the most likely. If the 11th of January is confirmed then the second and final round of elections will be held on 25 January. There are realistically only two serious candidates in the race to be Croatia’s next President, with incumbant Josipović currently leading the latest polls with 47.1% support (source: RTL poll). Josipović’s main challenge comes in the form of ex Foreign Affairs Minister and former Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy at NATO, Kolinda Grabar Kitarović.

Grabar Kitarović has 30% support in the polls, with Milan Kujundžić expected to just make up the numbers come voting time with just 9.4% support.
