Croatia has been ranked the third favourite destination by Germans who travel by motor vehicle to their holiday spot.

In 2016 motorists in Germany ranked Croatia the third favourite holiday destination, behind their own country Germany and Italy, according to a survey conducted last month by the German auto club ADAC with its 1.2 million members.

The survey revealed that the trend of German holidaymakers using a motor vehicle to holiday in their own country continued with 32.7% driving to a destination somewhere in Germany.

The second most popular destination was Italy (19%), whilst 8.6% selected Croatia, ADAC data showed. Turkey was next (7.4%), followed by Austria (6.7%) and France (5.4%).

Croatia has made progress over the last two years, jumping past Austria and France on the list.

Once again Istria was German campers favourite region in Europe, followed by the Dalmatian coast, and ahead of the regions of South Tyrol and Garda Lake in Italy, whilst Croatia was ranked the third most popular camping destination behind Germany and Italy again.
