Croatia Gets First Disability-Friendly Theatre

VidraVidra theatre, located in Croatia’s capital Zagreb, has become the nations first disability-friendly theatre…

Adjustments, including a mobile landing platform for wheelchair access and tactile paving and Braille marked seats for the blind, were presented yesterday on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Vidra director Duško Ljuština called for all theatres in the country to be adjusted to the needs of people with disabilities, and announced that Zagreb’s famous Kerempuh theatre would undergo adjustments next year.

There are an estimated 500,000 people living in Croatia with disabilities.

“They create and use cultural products, but they cannot access theatre halls… which they should be enabled to do,” said Ljuština.
