Croatia has made it through to the last 8 at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile after upsetting Germany 2-0 in Concepcion on Thursday…

Croatia looked dangerous in the first half of the first spell and after hitting the crossbar deservedly went ahead in the 18th minute when captain Nikolo Moro finished off from 6 yards out after a good move on the left from Josip Brekalo.

There were further chances in the game to both sides, but Croatia’s defence, and in particular goalkeeper Adrian Šemper, were resolute. Croatia delivered the killer blow in injury time when Davor Lovren slotted home to make it 2-0.

The winner is the second impressive win in a row for Dario Bašić’s boys. On Friday his side beat World Champions and the most successful U-17 side on the world stage Nigeria.

“The boys have shown their knowledge and desire, we have seen that they have a lot of talent and can cope with difficult situations,” said Croatian football federation President Davor Šuker.

Croatia will now face Mali on Sunday at 19:00 local time for a semi-final place.
