Croat Beats 22,000 Entries To Win UK Royal Society Of Chemistry Award

Why does hot water freeze faster than cold? Just ask Croatian Nikola Bregovic (29) from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Zagreb.

Bregovic beat off 22,000 people in the Mpemba effect competition held by the Royal Society of Chemistry in the UK.

Bregovic won £1000 by producing the best and most creative explanation of the phenomenon by which hot water sometimes freezes faster than cold water, known today as The Mpemba Effect.
