British Officer Commemorated For Role In Croatian Homeland War

Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has honored a retired British brigadier for the part he played during the military operation to liberate Peruca during the homeland war.

Josipovic decorated Mark Nicholas Gray for his part in preventing a disaster at the hydroelectric Peruca Dam during the Croatian army offensive on 27-28 January 1993, when he raised the spillway channel and reduced the level of water in the lake. This prevented collapse of the dam when the withdrawing Serbs detonated 30 tons of explosives they had placed there.

“I am proud to had been able to make a contribution to the history of this great nation. I will forever remember my time here and feel committed to this country and its people,” said Gray.
