British Farmers Want Croatian Fruit And Vegetable Pickers

Despite having more than 2.5 million unemployed in their own country, Britain’s National Farmers Union (NFU) are looking for Croatian fruit and vegetable pickers for seasonal work on British farms.

According to British media, the NFU want the government to sign an agreement with Croatia to allow its seasonal workers to enter the UK and work on British farms. The union says that they require a further 20,000 workers, or face a huge quantity of fruit and vegetables to go unpicked.

Until now Croatia has had only a bilateral agreement for seasonal workers with Germany. Last year 6,198 workers went to Germany to work in agriculture.
