Croatian Deputy PM Jailed

Croatia’s Deputy Prime Minister Radimir Cacic is off to jail. Today a Hungarian court ordered that Cacic serve half of his 22-month suspended prison sentence inside. Cacic was sentenced originally in June to a suspended sentence of 1-year and 9 months jail for causing death after a traffic accident in 2010 in Hungary, reported Tportal.

This morning’s decision means that Cacic (63) will have to serve 11 months in jail. He has no right of appeal. Cacic was not in court today as he was in Qatar with a Croatian government delegation.

The Deputy Prime Minister was found guilty of speeding and causing the accident on a highway in Hungary in January 2010, in which two Hungarian citizens died.

Cacic resigned from his function within the Croatian government late on Wednesday afternoon.
