The annual ‘fatties v Skinnies’ football match held in the Dalmatian town of Makarska has ended in a 6 all draw…
The match, which is in its 15th year, is one of the town’s main summer attractions. Every year the 10-a-side match between ‘fatties’ and ‘skinnies’ (Debeli v Mršavi) takes place on the town’s waterfront during the peak tourist season which is followed by music, food and drink. Players from both sides have to pop onto the scales before the match, with no player under 120 kilos eligible for the ‘fatties’, and no player above 70 kilos able to play for the ‘skinnies’.
This year the ‘skinnies’ were led by the oldest man on the pitch – 42 kilo Joško Vusi, whilst crowd favourite Josip Gojak, at 157 kilos, was back again for the ‘fatties’. The hard-fought match ended in a draw.
